YUI VALLEY

~ Tradition and Nature ~

Come and stay in a 100-year-old traditional Japanese house, nestled in the quiet village of Tamatori. The home is set in a lush valley surrounded by bamboo forests, green tea plantations, rice fields, cherry blossom trees, mountains, and rivers. Yui Valley is is a place to slow down, reconnect with nature, and experience the timeless beauty of the Japanese countryside.

The house once belonged to a local green tea farmer but was left abandoned for seven years, slowly falling into ruin. Yet beneath the decay, its charm remained. When it was rediscovered, its quiet beauty and traditional craftsmanship were lovingly brought back to life by the hosts. With careful restoration using natural second-hand materials and deep respect for its history, the home was transformed into the peaceful retreat it is today—welcoming guests to experience its story, serenity, and timeless spirit.

Stay and Create

Engage in Bamboo Crafting

DSCF0544.jpg

Join one of our bamboo crafting workshops and create your own handmade item using locally harvested bamboo. Choose from a woven basket, a hot pot base, or a simple bamboo ring—each guided by our host, Dai, who personally harvests and prepares the bamboo. Held in the peaceful Yui Valley, the workshops offer a hands-on experience of traditional Japanese craftsmanship in a beautiful natural setting.

Meet the Host

Dai is a local who grew up in the neighbouring area of Fujieda. After seven years of traveling the world, he returned to Japan to pursue his dream of opening a guesthouse. That dream led him to a long-abandoned home in the quiet village of Tamatori. Though the house had been in ruins for seven years, Dai saw its potential and took on the challenge of restoring it. To obtain the necessary permit to open the guesthouse, registering it as an agricultural stay was the most accessible path—so Dai embraced the opportunity and became a bamboo farmer

Through tireless work and thoughtful design, Dai and his late partner Hila (who passed away in 2022) spent ten years restoring and running the guesthouse together, shaping it into the peaceful and welcoming retreat it is today.

A few years after opening, Dai began selling bamboo to local craft artists and soon discovered his own passion for bamboo crafting—something he now shares with guests through hands-on workshops. Today, Dai and his partner Sara continue to welcome visitors, sharing the home, the land, and the quiet charm of life in Yui Valley.
